Content abstract Coastal zone is the most attracting place around the word,where waves,tides and etc.could be seen by naked eves.However the underlving currents.namely nearshore circulation,are much complicated and difficult to understand. Nearshore circulations are usually typed into two directions,the horizontal circulation and the vertical circulation.In the cross-shore direction,the mass transport by the nonlinearity and breaking is balanced by the undertow under the wave trough, this is called the vertical circula on.While longshore currents induced by the oblique incident waves,shoreward mass transport and the offshore-directed rip currents compose the horizontal circulation.The nearshore circulations play a key role in coastal pollutant and sediment transports,and hence contribute greatly to the coastal environment and morphology.On the other hand,these underlying and strong currents are also regarded as the natural hazard,especially to the people on the tourism beaches around the world.The research work about the hydrodynamics of nearshore circulation is hence ortant with the fast development of ocean engineering, environmental protection and public safety. This course offers the physical test conducted in the wave flume for the hydrodynamics of nearshore circulation.The characteristic of nearshore currents (including longshore currents and rip currents)on complex beaches (plane beach. barred beach,bared beach with rip channels)are investigated using high accuracy equipment.Besides,the numerical experiments are also conducted to help understanding. 5.Equipments (1)Multi-purpose wave flume. The proposed experiments are based on some national important projects.The main contents include experiments of wave interaction with the main body of SPAR platform, heave-plates of SPAR platform,vortex-induced vibration of deep-sea platform riser, and motion response experiment of Jack-up drilling rigs.Some rules can be summarized f the experimental phenomena and the necessa technique support can be provided for safe operation and desing on deep-sea platform.The research findings have been applied on the first deep-sea platform named "CNOOC 981"in China.It has been on active service in South China Sea. 5.Equipments Nonlinear wave flume Multi-functional wave tank

Civil and Hydraulic Engineering Frontier Experiment Learning Logs project7■ Numerical Simulation Hydrodynamics in OceanEngineering 1.Laboratory:The State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering 2.Professors:Prof.Bin TENG and Associate Prof.Lin LU 3.Classroom:The State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering 4.Content ab stract: Laboratory test is widely used as an important research approach in ocean engineering.However,it does not mean that the laboratory tests are valid for all the problems associated with the hydrodynamics of ocean engineering.For example,the vortex-induced vibration of riser in deepwater can not be well modeled by using the experimental facilities due to the limitations of model scale in addition to the difficulties of measurements of strain,velocity field and fluid forces on the cylinder.The numerical simulation,on the othe hand,provides feasible approach for us to investigate these problems.Analoque to the laboratory experiment,the numerical simulation is also referred as numerical experiment,which play more and more important role in the investigations of ocean hydrodynamics,not only a supplement to the convectional laboratory test but also a new research filed in the ocean engineering.The Numerical Wave Flume in two-dimension and the Numerical Wave Tank in three-dimension based on both potential flow theory and viscous fluid model will be introduced in this course.Some successful applice ions of these numerical models,such as the wave-structures interaction in the frequency and time domains,local scour around submarine pipeline.vortex-induced vibration of deepwater riser and liquid sloshing in (1)Computer:CPU.2.8G Hz:Memory:2G.
