Translation and Cultural Diversity The 18th World Congress of the International Federation of Translators was held at Shanghai International Convention Center from 4 to 7 Aug 2008,the congress theme "translation and cultural diversity",with more than 1500 participants from over 70 countries and regions attending the congress.This is the first time in its history that FIT decides to host a congress in Asia

意义 世界翻译大会在中国召开，正在持续发展且更 加成熟自信的中国将以“翻译”这种特殊的 视角和方式积极参与世界文明对话，为异质 文化之交融共铸贡献中国译界之智慧和力量 同时，也借这种历史契机，为世界文明重构 输送中华文明及中国学者一份持久的关怀

“能通则变”，变革中的中国需要“通观达变 通译、传译、迻译 均系翻译应有之义； 宏通、融通、博通 均为翻译之鹄的； “能入、能遍、能透”，为跨文明对话之要 谛。贯而能通者，非翻译莫属，故翻译便历 史地载荷着“贯通古今中外”之历史和现实 使命。而此次大会，便是中国译界承载这种 使命的现实起点和发展平台。自此，我们将 会通历史，立足现在，走向未来积极参 与并创造属于中国译界的一段崭新的历史！

黄友义：中国稀缺“中译英”人才导致 文化“逆差” “翻译的发展水平，和国家、城市的发展水平相 对应。中国的经济发展势头良好，翻译业的 蓬勃发展是必然的。”然而，乐观憧憬中国 翻译产业的同时，黄友义也一针见血，“十 年树木，百年树人。只有提高翻译的高等教 育水平，才能满足未来对于翻译人才的需要 否则中国高水平的翻译人才，将出现十万的 缺口
