Word formation Comprehensive English I There are three major word-formation processes,namely, compounding,derivation,and conversion,which respectively account for 27%,17.5%and 10.5%of all new vocabulary. In previous units we have learned about compounding and derivation.In this unit there are some words which are formed through conversion.Please do the first two exercises of Exercise 1(Become familiar with the rules of word formation.)on Page 219 and find out which word formation process is used to form each word.Following are some examples of each process: Compounding:forget-me-not,raindrop; Derivation:modernize,enrich; Conversion:attack,bottle
