Force transferring mechanisms ➢ The shear forces transferring between steel and concrete is the most important aspect in the design which enables the steel beam and concrete elements to interact with each other and makes the beams behave compositely. ➢ Commonly, the composite action is achieved by headed studs which are welded on the top flange of the steel beam. ➢ For the composite shallow cellular floor beams, the shear transferring mechanism consist of : ✓ the concrete plugs passing through the web openings combined with reinforcing bars elements ; ✓ the bonding at the interface of the concrete slab and the steel beam
In ordinary slim floor beams such as Slimfloor, Slimdek and Asymmetric Slimfloor Beam, the shear transfer is usually assumed by the bonding effect at the interface between the concrete and steel beam. Researchers of Tongji University conducted experimental studies aiming to advance the design method of composite shallow cellular floor beams, emphasizing their shear connections. Taking advantage of the benefits offered by the structural configuration of the slim floor beam, two configurations of shear connections representing different web opening geometries were designed: the "circular opening"and the "clothoidal opening
