4.3.1 Pruning to a bud a. A correctly cut: make an upwardly sloping cut (45º), starting on the opposite side of the shoot to the bud. The top of cut is about ¼ inch above the bud b. Too close to bud [which would almost certainly be damaged] and cut too slanted [causing a larger wound] c.
